I’m so excited to introduce this feature today!  I’m starting a new feature where each week I will feature a sketchbook of another blogger, artist, friend… whoever.  The feature will run on Wednesdays, and I already have a few amazing posts lined up!  If you have a sketchbook you’d like to share, please email me!

What kind of sketchbook do you use?

I have a red Moleskine sketchbook.  It’s the medium size, about 8 x 10 in. when it’s open.

What is your sketchbook’s story?

I bought my sketchbook at the beginning of the spring semester in 2009.  I was starting my third year architecture studio, and that semester I used my sketchbook primarily for notes.  I used it the following semester, and as I went and looked through it I realized how boring most of the pages were.  Even though the sketchbook was full, I decided to go back and use it as a sketchbook for mixed media as an exercise in layering.  I now go back and use the orginal notes as a base layer and try to construct compositions around it using experimental media.  It’s really fun to go back and read my notes that have now be added on to and remember what I was studying at the time.  For example, I took a class where we studied a site in Richmond in the fall of 2010 and you can see a lot of notes about Richmond on the pages above.

What kind of media do you use in your sketchbook?

I use pretty much everything: pencil, ink, paint, collage… I like to layer a lot in this sketchbook.

Where do you like to work in your sketchbook?

I take my sketchbook everywhere with me.  I’ve worked on it in tons of different places, but usually I’m in my apartment in front of our sliding glass door, where we get the most light.

What is the biggest inspiration for your work?

I really like to draw from life, but often times the medium that I’m working with is what inspires me.
